FID stands for First Input Delay. It is about the delay between the moment of clicking and the time that the page has processed this.
What is FID?
FID (First Input Delay) measures the user experience of a website by looking at the time it takes the website to perform a certain action after the user interacts for the first time. To clarify this we will use an example:
On a website I see a link to get further information about a certain topic. I click on this link to be sent to the other page. The time it takes between clicking the link and finding me on the other page is the First Input Delay.
FID Score
To measure user experience, we need to look at the ideal time. It has been stated that the FID may not exceed 100 milliseconds. With a score between 100 milliseconds and 300 milliseconds, it needs improvement, but with a score above 300 milliseconds, it needs to be optimized immediately.
A good score is important for the user experience. You want the visitors to stay on your website for a long time and not leave it as soon as the page cannot be loaded, for example. The score is also important for SEO. The FID score also determines your position in the search results of search engines, such as Google. Google has made Core Web Vitals part of its ranking algorithm. This means that the performance techniques FID, LCP and CLS are of great importance for your website.
