A robots.txt file is a text file that is placed in the root or main directory of a website so that crawlers index your pages.
What is robots.txt?
Search engine bots or crawlers use your file to index your website and associated pages. They are easy to create using generators such as SEO book and SEOptimer. WordPress also has Yoast and Rank Math plug-ins to create them easily. Finally, you can also choose to create them manually on your PC.
It is not mandatory to have it in the backend of your website, but it does make the search easier for search engines. Then why is it important?
Importance of robots.txt file
In addition to indicating which pages are present on a website, the file also indicates which pages should and which pages should not be indexed. Bots and crawlers in most cases take into account your placed robots.txt file. However, search engine bots always analyze whether the file matches the actual structure on the website. If a website does not contain a robots.txt file, the search engine will index all available pages. As mentioned earlier, this can indicate if bots or crawlers do not have to index certain pages. Think of a website that is in the test phase or other pages that are not suitable for website visitors.
So because of the direct link with the search engine crawlers, it is important for SEO.
